“Play Ball” - A bi-partisan outlook on the November elections by the Chairman of California’s Fair Political Practices Commission, Dan Schnur (GNSD)

July 08, 2010, 6:00pm

Summary:

“It’s all about putting a dent in the universe,” said Dan Schnur, as he shared his favorite quote from Steve Jobs with Gen Next Members at Arterra in Del Mar. In his riveting discussion, he highlighted his view of voters to the group, classifying them as “saints, sinners, and salvagables." Most of his discussion revolved around the middle ground of the political arena, or those which he termed “salvagables,” and how their votes are often the deciding factors in elections.

Detail:

To further explain this concept, he used the analogy of politics in an iPod world.  In other words, he discussed how today’s technology allows people to “tune out” other ideas and concepts, although keeping an open mind is vital when creating middle ground.

Schnur then discussed a few of his views on the upcoming elections in California, stating that it may come down to who we hate more, the wealthy CEO or the career politician.  He explained that populist voter anger is more than we have seen in 20 years and will have a large impact on the elections in November.

Members raised questions about redistricting versus open primaries, and the best ways to cultivate the middle ground that Schnur advocates.

Gen Next would like to thank Mr. Dan Schnur for spending the evening with our members and guests.
