Monu Joseph is the managing partner of Catalina Securities, a Newport Beach based merchant bank. Monu has extensive transactional experience with venture capital, mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and joint ventures. While Monu historically worked with technology companies both as an investment banker and as an attorney, he currently works with clients in a wide array of industries.
Monu’s work history involves over a decade of transactional experience. This includes five years spent as a lawyer with Morrison & Foerster's corporate finance group, work with Hudson Venture Partners and its portfolio companies, as well as investment banking with CIBC World Markets Technology, Media and Telecom investment banking group based on Sand Hill Road. He has represented or worked with real estate advisory and investment firms, venture capital firms, private equity funds, hedge funds, investment banks, financial services companies and a host of multi-national corporations. He has extensive experience working with software, hardware, internet, media, medical device and other life science companies. Since founding Catalina in 2004, Monu has closed transactions totaling over $1BM in value.
Monu is married to Jeannie Joseph, an attorney formerly with both Skadden Arps and Morrison & Foerster and currently a Deputy Chief of the US Attorney's Orange County office. Monu and Jeannie have three children, a five year-old boy named Grayson the Terrible and fraternal twins (a boy and a girl), named Archer and Hayden (yes, she’s named after a certain football coach).
Monu miraculously graduated with a degree from the University of California Santa Barbara (by far his most surprising achievement), received a law degree (magna cum laude) from the University of Iowa where he was a member of the Law Review and a recipient of the LOF fellowship and has an MBA from Oxford University (emphasis in finance and bad behavior).
Monu’s hobbies include squash (thoroughly mediocre despite great effort); polo (oddly competent); chess (maven); and looking for his golf ball (complete duffer).
Monu is a member of the Board of Trustees of the World Affairs Council and a member of the Pacific Council on International Policy. He is a past board member of Canyon Acres Children and Family Services.
